John Pomfret’s new blog

Wow – off to a flying start, at least in terms of igniting a firestorm. John is one of the best and brightest when it comes to China (my own blog probably links more to his articles than those of any other journalist). Will blogroll this now.

Is China going to take over the world? Will it ever really become a superpower? Will the Communist Party ever engage in political reform? What do Chinese think of us? What’s hot in Beijing, Shanghai, Kunming? What are the Chinese reading? Is there hope for better relations between Beijing and Taipei? What’s the best thing written this week about China?

Man, that’s easy!

No, Yes, Sort of, “Spoiled,” Money, “Very little,” Yes, “Probably something on Danwei.”

How’d I do?

God, that is pretty awful. Sounds more like marketing BS than a journalist’s blog. I want to believe Pomfret didn’t really write that.

Perfect score, Brendan. Let’s see how you do on the quiz I’m writing for That’s Beijing next month.

Interesting I was just thinking about why the Chinese aren’t obsessed with quality and concluded that looking westward all they can see are spoilt people who discard even well made things overnight.

Why wouldn’t any economy build itself around this weakness.

Spoilt indeed.!

Brendan, so hilarious I’ll try and imitate:

So what’s next? Pomfret will quote from the chat boards. Or maybe a QQ exchange. And then what? He’ll treat them like scientific studies. Will China collapse? Only if us unruly foreigners keep away.

Poor job, probably. But it was fun trying. LOL.

Alas, why isn’t Brendan writing the columns that are plastered all over the international press? Far more entertaining/informative and, best of all, succinct. 🙂
