Beijing Blogger Bash update

We now have eight bloggers who’ve told me via email or comments that they’d like to join the party. That’s pretty good! I’m looking at Saturday December 6 around lunchtime. Sunday is possible, too — please let me know if you have a preference.

Also, if someone has a suggestion for a meeting place, let me know. Somewhere easy and central, like Wangfujing or Guo Mao would make sense. Thanks to all who’ve responded (and if you haven’t, what are you waiting for?).

The Discussion: 5 Comments

I was talking to Adam about this – a lot of it’d depend on what kind of food you want to get.

If you’re interested in, er, Peking Duck, I know a pretty good place hidden in a maze of hutong alleys near Qianmen, but it’s enough of a pain to find that everyone’d have to coordinate cabs and whatnot. Also, although the food is excellent and much cheaper than the duck at most places, it’s been listed in the Lonely Planet guidebook (which I hate more than words can describe), and thus has a large-ish foreign/backpacker clientele.

Anyway, maybe we can get Roddy to set up something to discuss this at chinese-forums.com or something.

I think we’re up to nine now, which is quite amazing. I was expecting maybe three or four. Whatever place we choose, it should be easy to find and not too far off the beaten path. I eat Chinese food every day, so it doesn’t have to be a Chinese restaurant. I’m open to anything, as long as I don’t have to eat lungs or other innards, deer penis, frog ovaries, any type of insect, chicken feet or fish heads.

Wish I were around for this, I would love to meet the people behind my daily reads. I must know, is Jeremy as smart as his new blog seems to indicate? Can I hold my own talking photography with Wen Ling, or would he blow me away (I think the latter)? Could I have a hardcore compsci geek-out with Flammifer?

Instead I’ll be in Thailand celebrating the King’s birthday on the 5th. But the scene has really picked up in the past month or two, and I’m looking forward to starting my own site and joining the conversation.

I will say that there is a pretty high quality, all you can eat dimsum + buffet lunch at Horizons in the Kerry Center. Somewhat ritzy, but a decent deal for the high quality of food, and pretty easy to get to. ?
