How to explain site traffic?

It makes no sense. I haven’t posted anything remarkable and I haven’t been linked by Instrapundit, but over the past three days my site traffic has been in the range of 400 unique visitors each day. I know, it’s a teensy drop in the bucket for Phil and Conrad (they get that much each hour), but for me it’s pretty amazing.

In Beijing I often got thousands of hits a day due to my posts on SARS (posts on AIDS, gays in China and The Great Firewall also helped). It was a short ride that ended the day I moved to Singapore. Daily traffic dropped to less than 150 a day for my first two months here, then stabilized at about 250 a day. The leap of the past three days is inexplicable.

400 visitors a day is nothing to brag about. But it is nice to know that a couple hundred people around the world “make an appointment” to come by every day. Let’s see how long the current spike lasts.

I’ve noticed an increase in traffic too. Nothing large either. I don’t know, maybe there are more mainlanders who have become aware of us.

Phil, it’s true that “Peking Duck” is what most of the Google hits are about, but that’s only 25 percent of total traffic. The rest come either because they find my charm irresistible or they are extreme masochists.

Well, I came to Peking Duck via Conrad, but I can tell you that your style and material will keep me coming back. No boobies needed. (Conrad, you did not see me write that, OK?) My wife is from Taipei, and her family from the Shanghai area. Many relatives are there on both sides of the straits, as well as here (US). I applaud your efforts to keep open the lines of dialogue among us all.

echoed. I think PD should have much higher traffic. Certainly a lot more intelligent than the faff I put out.

Thanks guys. I don’t have the in-your-face verve that Phil and Conrad do, so I’ll never be a super-blogger like them, but it’s nice to know somebody’s actually reading the stuff I’m taking all this time to write.

It’s okay boys, you can admit being homophobic… Plus Postscript

Postscript Look. I am so bored with all these people coming to read this thing, and I am sure a lot of people are commenting all over the place. Me personally, not smart point made got blown up, out of

I am not a super blogger – Conrad does about 50% more traffic than me on average and of course he gets those wonderful ( IHATE HIM FOR THIS) blips when instapuppy links to him. In fact, there only 41 sites in the world that link to me. I am SO UNPOPULAR!

Well, we all know that Instapuppy only links to losers, so we’re not jealous at all. Yeah, right.
