In case you have any doubts, go take a look at the magazine’s latest covers. Incredible.

A peculiar hybrid of personal journal, dilettantish punditry, pseudo-philosophy and much more, from an Accidental Expat who has made his way from Hong Kong to Beijing to Taipei and finally back to Beijing for reasons that are still not entirely clear to him…

Well if the issue with the chick on the cover has ‘faghag bumper edition’ on it somewhere that would prolly explain the chick. 🙂

It’s probably a drag queen. Or maybe they needed one straight-appearing issue to point to when The Party comes knocking on the door…. Whatever the reason, that cover is sure in the minority!

Well, as I posted at “Pure Essence”, I think there is little doubt it’s targeted for gay audiences. I’m a gay foreigner living in Shanghai, I picked up an issue of Menbox. ALL of the photos were of sexy young Asian guys (and one white guy), in underwear, swimsuits, or just nude. Some of the photos were mildly erotic (e.g. two naked guys hugging each other).
Chinese women just don’t buy magazines like this. And straight men are not usually interested in sexy photos of young naked guys touching each other. That leaves gay Chinese men. Kudos to menbox, I wish them success!
