Pomfret spoke on National Public Radio today about China’s economy and whether it poses a threat to the US. Nope, they are not a threat, he concludes, but a partner whose boom is good for the US in most ways. Listen to the whole thing.

I have heard ridiculous comments by business “leaders” about the threat of China. These same leaders increased personal wealth through good ole’ capitalism and one would think that they would recognize an opportunity. Chinese socio-economic growth will be a wonderful thing for this planet.

Although I do not agree with everything that John Pomfret has said in the past about China, I must say, that I do agree with all that he has to say in this radio address.
China’s integration into the global capitalist order means that it now has a strong interest in maintaining the status quo, which, as Pomfret quite rightly points out in my opinion, can only help to make the world a safer, more stable place in which to live in.

I certainly hope this resounds. The quicker America and Americans understand this, the better our nations and our world will be. It’s coming. And soon enough.

Mark;
To confirm your conclusion, I have a lot of talks with the smartest Chinese CEO I know. No matter which way I phrase it, or which angle we discuss it from, the answer to the question “What does China really want?” is always “stability”
