Judy Miller, leaker or innocent victim?

The Rove soap opera continues its march into melodrama with an intriguing new twist, the possibility of Judy Miller being not a pawm but a willing perpetrator in the whole thing. And oh, what a new spin that would be. Editors have been wringing their hands over Judy D’Arc’s burning at the stake, but it may just turn out that she’s played a larger and uglier role in this mess. Anyone aware of her working as a government shill during the Iraq War knows she is highly capable of it.

As usual, I’m finding the best information, written with the most flair, wit and diligence, over at this blog. Scroll around and you’ll soon see what I mean. This is a good place to start.

For great background on why this is about much more than a CIA agent’s outing, see this article from a year ago. At the heart of today’s scandal is whether the “evidence” that led us into the disastrous Iraq war was fixed. (Of course it was, which is why it was so essential to demolish Joseph Wilson’s reputation, smearing him as a veritable monster, madman and compulsive liar. And that is still the only strategy the GOP has as it ramps up its smear machine into superoverdrive.)

Richard:
It is hard to believe grownups will stoop so low for partisan politics as your links make obvious. That is but history now. As I pointed out on the current open thread, truthout.com has a good article about Rove’s potential legal jeopardy under his classified material nondisclosure agreement and Executive Order #12958.

It looks to me that if no laws were violated by Rove, he still has major and obvious problems with those two documents. The chickens are coming home to roost for BushCo.

You are totally right Pete, and even if there’s no indictment, if they keep Rove on they will have willfully lied to us. (What else is new?) Watching Scot McLellan’s daily crucifixion in front of the DC gaggle on this issue is so sweet, because they brought this on themselves with their own words. They swore whoever was involved would be fired. And now they’re hoisted on their own petard.

Another important document everyone should read are the GOP talking points on this story. Every single thing we’re hearing on Faux News, from Ann Coulter, Ken Mailman, Rush — it’s all right here. They are all singing from a pre-scripted songbook. Brilliant. And scary. There is no truth, only the script. We live in an age where we can believe nothing our government tells us. Because Karl Rove is writing their words.

It is scary that the GOP has hardwired some of the so called news media for its propaganda purposes. This is why I worry that totalitarian government is not so far away, if the progressives, the “awful Liberals” and people with a true belief in America for everyboby let down their guard as happened in 2000 to 2004.

I wonder how long it will be before Time magazine has a picture of Karl Rove on the cover with a cigar in his hand and airbrushed smoke wafting out of his mouth….

He’d look better with a set of balls on his chin.
