Is there a tech support person in the house? I’ve now received five separate emails, only from readers in Taiwan, saying they cannot access my site. They get the following message when they try:
You don’t have permission to access on this server.
A 403 Forbidden error was encountered while trying to use an Error Document to handle the request.
Can anyone tell me what’s going on? Is this a problem with my server that I can fix, or has the PRC taken over Taiwan and banned my site?
Update: Another Taiwan reader says he’ seeing this: “Apache/1.3.33 Server at www.pekingduck.org Port 80”
Help!

I don;t know if it’s related or not, but my mom and dad both sent emails saying they couldn’t get through when trying to call this morning.
They kept receiving a message saying the network was busy.

Richard,
Your site is not loading very well on my computer yesterday. I presumed that it’s got something to do with the problems that you were having with your server.
P.S. I’m not in Taiwan (and I think that you know where I’m.) Send me an email if you want to know about the problem with my access to your site yesterday. But don’t panic. I’m sure that there is rational explanation.

Well, I can get in via anonymouse … I now know what you guys in China have to go through to access deviant sites 🙂
I’m fairly sure it’s a setup problem on pekingduck.org … the ‘Apache Server at pekingduck’ message implies the request is getting through, but your webserver is refusing to give me access (presumably because of my IP address).
Have you got a list of blocked IP addresses? I’d be happy to have a look at your configuration files if you want.

David, please send me an email. Thanks. If it works (and even if it doesn’t), I’ll take you out for the best street meal in Taipei.

It could be a routine Server Error. Try other sites in other countries. Also, are you trying to access this server at peak times? It just might not be up to the task. I’d check all those things before I went politically paranoid.
BTW: since I read this earlier, i’ve sent several emails. Get them?
