How could such a cute guy be such a prick?
This article in the NYT is rich with implications; the great Steve Clemons explains why. There’s no way out; it looks more and more like Watergate each day. The implosion continues. “Get your popcorn ready.”
Update: Sorry about the image of Cheney being fingered.

Love Clemon’s piece. It all fits…
Wouldn’t it be an extra bonus to see Bolton go down?
Er, I mean, get indicted and have to resign.

I’ll settle for Rove, but Cheney and Bolton would be a great bonus.
Again, what it’s really all about is so much wider and more important than who leaked Plame’s information. This investigation could lead to a full exposure of how we were lied to, even to thepoinbt of documents being forged simply to make Joe Wilson look like a liar. The Cheney cabal makes the Plumbers look like Amateur Hour (which they were). Fitzgerald won’t let them get away with it. Even those well to the right swear by him.

Well, apparently Fitzgerald has asked for docs relating to the Niger forgeries as well…wouldn’t it be wild if he’s going after the whole corrupt lot of them?
Dang, I want to believe…I really do.

When you guys (and gals) are prepared to cut the Bush administration at least as much slack as you’re willing to give Chairman Mao, then I might start paying attention to what you have to say …

What’s with the bogus comparison with Moo? He was evil, but is dead. Bush/Cheney are still with us and are dangerous to this country. It is hard telling what these guys might do to try to escape any fingers being pointed at them or far worse if culpable. The difference is Bush/Cheney are capable to doing more evil and harm whereas Moo can’t.

Jesus god, that is just too much. What, are you saying, we should hold Bush and company to the same standards we hold Mao? Not aiming very high, are you?
The whole Wilson/Plame case was about their fear of exposure, the fear that their lies about Iraq would come to light. They lied us into a war. People died because of their lies. 2,000 American soldiers, dead. Tens of thousands wounded. 30,000 plus Iraqi civilians, dead. There’s a quote about the Opium War in the back of my mind – okay, here it is…

FSN9, I’m the one who says Mao is just about as bad as Hitler, and most of the readers here seem to agree. What are you talking about?
Try telling the mothers and fathers of the kids who marched to an engineered war based on BS that they should now cut Bush and Cheney some slack. See what they say. I’ll cut them as much slack as you and Conrad have cut for Bill Clinton, whose crime was negligible compared to what Cheney and his Merry Men have done.

From Richard: Sorry Madge, but I do indeed have to delete. I disagree with FSN9, too, but there’s no need for language like that, and besides, I have a zero-tolerance policy when it comes to comments from you so I have zero choice but to zap it before you start spamming my blog again. Thanks anyway.

You know what I love about this site? No one ever jumps to conclusions around here and just starts calling peoples names.
Sarcasm, people. Richard, you should keep that last comment up just so people remember how ugly it looks when someone jumps on someone else before giving them the opportunity to clarify their position. I think we’ve all been guilty of this sin, though not with such fireworks.

I used to be wayyy more tolerant and peaceable and “why can’t we all get along?” and looking for common ground and all…but when somebody accuses me of cutting Mao more slack than I cut Bush – sorry. That is just b.s.
Forgive me for holding the leaders of my own supposedly democratic country to a higher standard. And forgive me for celebrating when it appears that the democratic process is opening up a can of whup-ass on this ‘neo-con cabal.’

MAJ, I’m not going to comment any further than this:
First, you opened with “f**k the lot of you”. That means everybody. Stop.
Second, you’re still calling people names, which hinders any dialogue. I would think of ALL the people to comment on THIS site, you might be able to put yourself in the shoes of someone who was called names – whether they’re deserved or not, if I want to see people getting in verbal fist fights over stupid s**t, I’ll go back to teaching high school.

As far as I’m concerned there is a thin line, and when any leader crosses that line then I largely stop counting who is worse or who killed how many people unless somebody else picks a fight over it.
Bush and Mao both crossed that line long ago, Mao teatered on the line between leader and monster, but he finally crossed it in Changchun, the Bush admnistration teatered for a while, and finally crossed it when it faked the threat from Iraq and invaded.
Down with th both of them.

Could not find my porn.
Landlord took it from my bed.
How can I jack off?
Go to Richard’s site.
Curse at everyone, and then
Fantasise: “I’m loved”
Who needs medicine?
I calm myself down this way,
Stalking Peking Duck.

PS, also, as a legal matter, about my prior comment:
Richard unequivocally ordered MAJ never to comment on this blog, ever again. When MAJ tried to comment again, it was harassment, at least under the criminal laws of the UK and the US.
Thus, if MAJ feels “defamed” here, the law bars him from making any complaint. It’s called “estoppel”, by the way.

Richard,
Alright, maybe “shit” is not the best metaphor here. I think “Parasite” is much more apt.
Richard, did you ever live with a cat?
You know I’m a great cat lover. And a wise old lady (who would have been called a “witch” in other times) taught me how to put garlic in my cats’ food, to keep the fleas away.
You see, if you put a BIT of garlic into a cat’s diet (and I think the same applies to ducks), then the smell gets into their bloodstream, and then when the fleas bite them, the fleas don’t like the taste, so they jump off and they don’t come back for a long time.

I share Matt Waters’ apprehension, and worse. I think we best not get our hopes too high, no matter how badly we want some justice and accountability.
Personally, I would not be shocked if no one is indicted, due to legal challenges such as the difficulty in proving someone absolutely knew Plame was a covert agent at the moment they mentioned her name, or trying to prove whether someone was motivated by malice or just bad judgement. Some of these points may be very difficult to prove in a court of law.
Yes, like any good drama, the players are symbols of a far greater conflict, nothing less than the nation’s leaders deceiving the country into an invasion! But the law doesn’t care about the Big Drama, and despite the recent spate of leaks and speculations, we still don’t know all that much about who actually said what about whom and whether or not it was in some way actually illegal.
Of course, no matter what happens, at least enough has already taken place that some American van Winkles seem to be awakening from their drowsy slumbers, rubbing their eyes and starting to notice what has happened these last couple of years, how the Beacon of Freedom came to find itself struggling in an awful, intractable invasion nightmare, seperated from most of our traditional friends by a huge gulf of disgrace. Hey you Sleepers, awake already!
Also, it has been a great relief to see the American press, like a freshly re-animated zombie, struggling back to life.
So even if no indictments (much less convictions) follow, some good has already come of “Plamegate”. See, I’m just like those Republicans already testing their damage-control lines in case the worst comes to past. 🙂
Okay, having said that … pass the popcorn! I want to see Cheney in chains! Rove in a tumbrel! Scooter scooted! 🙂

I’m all for holding the USG to a higher standard, but Niner and Slim have a point. Let’s get all the evidence, see what exactly the law is, and who did it to whom first.

Obviously we all need to find out what Fitzgerald’s going to do before we get all euphoric. But I have to admit, after the Republicans’ orgy of glee for months before Starr issued his report, I feel it’s okay for us to express some satisfaction, at least over all the facts that have emerged in recent days about Cheney’s lies, Judy Miller’s practically being on the pentagon’s payroll, and the “Cheney cabal” that’s running America.
