Via CDT, a short but must-read article. It is nothing short of a plea to the central government to help end the rape of the people by local officials. Does the Party truly have the wherewithal to declare war on itself and punish the perpetrators? Aside from some fancy talk and the occasional well-publicized show trial of corrupt officials, I haven’t seen any meaningful evidence.
Check the article. It’s not a case of ignorant Westerners making the criticisms, it’s flesh-and-blood Chinese people. Are all these people in all these demonstrations “enemies”?

These people are not enemies. Those local government mother f**kers are.
Local government are always the problems. In beijing, the government officers are pretty much like a company employees you hardly find them different from you. But for local area especially where is far from beijing, local governments are truly mother f**kers.
Do you remember before 1949 CCP’s “land reform”. Across the country those so-called “land lords” were sentenced. Who were they then? Local ass***e governments of KMT.
The relateship between central and local government is a subtle one I would say.

But the Communist Party dictatorship is what gives those local governments absolute power.
Unless and until the Communist Party allows citizens to challenge it openly, in a free press and independent courtrooms, this situation will remain unchanged. The Party is just pissing in the wind when it pretends to criticise what the “local officials” are doing.
The central Communist Party officials are directly responsible for all this, as long as they refuse to let anyone challenge their filthy Communist Party Dictatorship.

I’m changing my username from Ed to Skystreaker since it’s too difficult to search for my comments.
Ivan, I understand your frustration – outside of pro CCP commies, I’ve never met so many people who have such strong convictions yet are unable to logically articulate them. However, there are many who do not fall under that category.
For the record, I know tons of people from the mainland, and are friends with many. I’ve worked years as an engineer, so you have some idea.
It is ridiculous to blame the local officials for all the problems. Government structure is defined by the CCP, nation-wide. They set the incentive structure for the local officials, and thereby their behavior. What’s even more unreasonable is to tie the local people are KMT.
In addition, Xin, even if you’ve met some ignorant (or someone who got his info on China during the drought brought on by CCP mismanagement) person that asked if you were well fed in China, why do you need to be a bigot and start cursing everyone else out? Are you in gradeschool?

And of course never forget that the local governments ARE the CPC just as much as the central authorities. CPC membership, the nomenklatura system, and party discipline does not end at the 4th ring road.
