A peculiar hybrid of personal journal, dilettantish punditry, pseudo-philosophy and much more, from an Accidental Expat who has made his way from Hong Kong to Beijing to Taipei and finally back to Beijing for reasons that are still not entirely clear to him…

After all the talk of the Cultural Revolution and the Red Guards (many of whom were not much older than the kids at “Jesus Camp”) on this blog of late, there’s something about THIS video that gives me chills.

Sorry, but this is trivial compared to Islamic madrassahs. Jesus camp tells kids to vote against liberalism, whereas madrassahs tell the kids to kill kill kill liberalism.
Not that Jesus camp isn’t ridiculous, but it’s more amusing than a threat to my life

Is this for real, Richard?

It’s definitely for real – follow the links.
Johnny, I wouldn’t compare this to terrorist camp, but when you see those kids with their eyes closed speaking in tongues, it’s quite disturbing. They are being turned into fanatics at a very tender age.

Johnny, sure today these capms just look like YMCA on acid but these kids are thought that martyrdom is something to strive for. Together with the us against them mentality this can become dangerous.

Look at what the movement has done to family planning clinics and doctors who are willing to perform abortions, for example.
But aside from overt violence, consider the impact these groups have had on teachings in public schools. Do we really want our kids taught creationism instead of science? What will that say for the country’s future development?

Bigoted and hateful, that is what you people are. If there is any doubt, see the definition from dictionary.com:

We bigoted, hateful people include, in this very thread, serious conservatives and Republicans. Anyone sending their children to be indoctrinated like this, a la Mao’s Red Guard, are scary. If you don’t see it, God have mercy on your soul.
