I too am no fan of Freidman. I stopped paying him much mind when he joined the Iraq War drum beat. I agree this article is great for our country, no … the world, to read despite the “incompetence” thread running through it.
What I mean is, he thinks the idea of the Iraq War to establish democracy in the Middle East was sound but poorly executed. That line of reasoning was morally wrong from the beginning. It means he condoned a pre-emptive war of aggression. If it was illegal for the Third Reich, as per the Nuremburg Trials, why not for Freidman and the US, or is the hegemony of his belief system sacrosanct?
Nevertheless, when it comes to the listing of apologies he demands in the article, he is 100% correct: How dare Bush and Cheney ask others for an apology! They and their minions should be ashamed for leading us on the road to perdition.

Amazing — it has Friedman’s byline but sounds like it was written by an anti-war liberal. And it’s only taken him three years to realise what liberals knew in 2003. What do you suppose he’ll glom in three more years that we realise right now?

Actually, it was written by Keith Olberman, who, unlike Friedman, publishes the truth even at the risk of his job.
One of the earlier comments seems to correctly point to the most damning element is turning our boys and girls into international war criminals.
Imagine, every soldier serving in Iraq has broken US and international law, despite the military commissions act.
I seldom see the part of the UCMJ that makes it illegal to obey an illegal order mentioned. So sad.
Finally, Mr. Friedman, where are your comments about the cut steel in the world trade center debris?
Imagine how the democrats would win if the public saw that the investigation was politically, not strategicaly, impeded.
Liberal press, indeed!

I would suggest you, Amos, put your money where your mouth is. Join me in calling for a draft to send more troops to Iraq. Only instead of perpetuating infanticide, let’s you and I who are over 35 go to war. Instead of making children fight our battles, let’s have you and me, and Rush and Dick, and Donald and all the big shots, who, like O’Reilly and Sean and Wolf and Richard Perles, etc., blow our mouths off everyday at no cost, who put stickers on our cars as though that was a sign of patriotism, let us go off to Iraq and fight for freedom. Put up or shut up! When? Right now, Amos.
