Now is the time of the year when we see a lot of “Top Ten” lists of all sorts. Here from Media Matters (via the Daou Report) are the Top Eleven (thanks to Ann Coulter) Most Outrageous Comments by right-wing commentators:
Right-wing rhetoric documented by Media Matters for America included the nonsensical (including Rush Limbaugh’s claim that America’s “obesity crisis” is caused by, among other things, our failure to “teach [the poor] how to butcher a — slaughter a cow to get the butter, we gave them the butter”), the offensive (such as right-wing pundit Debbie Schlussel’s question about “Barack Hussein Obama”: is he “a man we want as President when we are fighting the war of our lives against Islam? Where will his loyalties be?”), and the simply bizarre (such as William A. Donohue’s claim that some Hollywood stars would “sodomize their own mother in a movie”)
Given the stunning repudiation of the Republican agenda in the midterm elections, I’d like to hope these voices will be somewhat chastened in 2007 – but I’m not betting on it.
Okay, I have a ton of presents to wrap. Hope you and yours are enjoying the holidays, whatever you celebrate – I’m a Yuletide person myself…

This is an important article. A common belief – a total myth – is that the popular left-wing bloggeras (and pundits) are as “radical” as tose on the far-right. Popular blogs from the left are Atrios, Kos,Crooks & Liars, Talking Points Memo. Those on the far-right, Hugh Hewitt, Michelle Malkin, Charles Johnson, Atlas Shrugged, etc. If you read these blogs daily as I do you can quickly see the lefties are rational and actually mainstream – Kos is no radical, but rather an old-fashioned Democrat. The ones on the far right are borderline insane, fueld by truly extremist notions and a hatred of all things liberal. Luckily they are balanced by more responsible to-the-right bloggers like Right Wing Nut House and Andrew Sullivan and John Cole (true conservatives as opposed to Bush conservatives). But there is no parallel between the giants on the right and the left. it’s like comparing Fox News to CNN; CNN may (or may not) lean left, but it is in now way a shill for the Democratic Party as Fox is for the GOP. CNN and most others may be “liberal news media” (and that is highly debatable) but they are not Democratic media, as Fox is Republican media, s mere mouthpiece for GOP talking points.

She looks like Tina Turner peeing on an electric fence
Ya gotta admit, there are some good lines in there with the bad. Is anyone really proud of Cynthia McKinney?
Now, FAR right vs. FAR left; I’m not sure you’ve really identified the representatives. Anyone else interested in seeing a debate between Kos and, say, Gerard VanderLuen?
Merry Christmas, by the way, did I tell you?

Yeah, definitions are hard. I was thinking the big “mainstream” blogs like Kos and Malkin, not the sites that are truly nuts and not taken seriously (and I do take Michelle seriously). I mean sites that wield influence and have huge readerships, the shining stars in their respective sides of the blogosphere. (I’ve never heard of Gerard VanderLuen.)
And yes, Merry Christmas to you and to all.
