It looks like the shrub has the upper hand right now, but it’s still too early to tell. I wish this night were over.

I can only hope that Kerry does the manly thing and not contest the election.

Get some sleep Richard!
Look after yourself. Try to relax.
(And all the other annoying things that Chinese people keep telling me.)
If you stay up all night, it won’t change the results.
Or, failing that, you could go out and get drunk?

I went to bed early so I could get up at 4 a.m. and watch the results.
I guess I shouldn’t have bothered…
JP: are you saying Kerry should surrender? What do you think he is — French??

I trust Richard, that should President Bush win a second term, not only with sufficient college votes, but also with more votes than Kerry nationwide, that you will then put aside your refusal to acknowledge him as your legitimate president, and possibly even call him by his real name?

I can’t speak for Richard, but personally I will gladly extend to President Bush the same respect and deference that President Clinton received from his political opponents during his second term.

Li En, I won’t accuse him of stealing the election ig, when the dust settles, we know he won fairly. And if, in light of how divided the country is, he attempts to reach out to those who feel disenfranchised, I’ll credit him for it. But if he makes bad decisions and if Iraq becomes even worse, I’ll be the first to call him on it.

Fiona, I took your advice. It only made waking up this morning even more horrific. I am, needless to say, quite depressed,

Never mind Richard, there’s always 2008. In the meantime, American power is in the hands of people who aren’t ashamed of it.
How would you have expected Kerry to deal with the Hainan spyplane incident?

More alcohol?
Umm, I don’t know what else to suggest. If this were the kind of blog where I could write *hugs*, I would. But I think this blog is too serious for that, so I’ll just send you the vibes through the air-waves.

Thanks Fiona. I’m too depressed to post right now, but I’ll beback soon. This is a painful morning for me, and I’ve got to get back on my feet. It looks like bush won fairly, and I’ve got to accept the sad fact that I live in a conservative country in which I am a minority in every way. But this won’t silence me. Au contraire, I’ll be more outspoken than ever, if there is cause to be. After an entire year of work, it’s hard to accept this but I will.

And look on the bright side!
Everything horrible that happens to America between now and Jan. 20, 2009 (or whenever Bush resigns or is impeached, whichever comes first) will be his fault and his fault only.
Everything.
The statute of limitations on blaming Clinton’s penis ran out today.

Vaara, I just put up a post that makes that exact same point, about accountability now being on shrub’s shoulders. Still, the idea of 4 more years of htis nightmare makes me almost physically sick. I just watched Kerry’s gracious, articulate concession speech and was holding back tears, wondering why we can’t have a president who can reach out and communicate with the people.
