Some guidebooks warned that this is a tourist trap and kind of “cheesy.” I totally disagree, and my trip to the Stone Forest was one of the most enchanting experiences of my last trip to China.

Oh man. I so agree with you, Richard. The Stone Forest has a special place in my memories. That’s where I turned 21, during a total eclipse of the sun, no less. And I still have some ashes of a dead friend to deliver there. I haven’t been back since that first experience so many years ago. Glad to hear that it still holds some enchantment.

Don’t know about nowadays but me and my classmates went there in 1996, it was nice, but the place was strewn with all sorts of smelly rubbish and there piles of excrement around in the forest where tourists had failed to locate the toilets shall we say.

It’s far from the city. In Yunnan, a lot of the sky is blue. You can even breathe the air (but don’t even think of drinking the water).

What is he doing with himslef these days? Is he still as interested in China as you?
