Thank God that while terrorists kill our soldiers in Iraq and the economy continues to worsen for those without trust funds, our government has the fortitude to focus on the really important stuff, those life and death issues so vitally important to all of us. What would we do without them?

Did you not get the memo? Arresting dissenters IS of crucial importance right now! United we stand!

I’ve heard it said that a more eloquent point would be made not by burning a flag but by washing it. Unfortunately, its a trifle more difficult to lug a barrel of soapy water than a zippo lighter. Also a drippy, yet clean, flag doesn’t quite have the same emotional impact of a burning one.

Goes to show how ignorant are our law makers. The proper (and only) way to dispose of an old flag is to burn it. Since it is no longer fashionable to protest by burning the flag in this country, the only purpose this law serves is to put foreigners around the globe in secret CIA jails for burning our flag. Look for increased CIA charters to extradite people around the world to Gitmo or friendlies’ jails.

Kam Leung:
Don’t be absurd. The amendment, even were it to pass, and it won’t, has no extraterritorial effect. Anyone who wants to burn a US flag outside the US will be free to do so.

What makes you so sure it won’t pass? Most state legislatures are controlled by Republicans, and many Democrats (shamefully) support the measure too.
