Again, what it’s really all about is so much wider and more important than who leaked Plame’s information. This investigation could lead to a full exposure of how we were lied to, even to thepoinbt of documents being forged simply to make Joe Wilson look like a liar. The Cheney cabal makes the Plumbers look like Amateur Hour (which they were). Fitzgerald won’t let them get away with it. Even those well to the right swear by him.

What’s with the bogus comparison with Moo? He was evil, but is dead. Bush/Cheney are still with us and are dangerous to this country. It is hard telling what these guys might do to try to escape any fingers being pointed at them or far worse if culpable. The difference is Bush/Cheney are capable to doing more evil and harm whereas Moo can’t.

The whole Wilson/Plame case was about their fear of exposure, the fear that their lies about Iraq would come to light. They lied us into a war. People died because of their lies. 2,000 American soldiers, dead. Tens of thousands wounded. 30,000 plus Iraqi civilians, dead. There’s a quote about the Opium War in the back of my mind – okay, here it is…

Try telling the mothers and fathers of the kids who marched to an engineered war based on BS that they should now cut Bush and Cheney some slack. See what they say. I’ll cut them as much slack as you and Conrad have cut for Bill Clinton, whose crime was negligible compared to what Cheney and his Merry Men have done.

I used to be wayyy more tolerant and peaceable and “why can’t we all get along?” and looking for common ground and all…but when somebody accuses me of cutting Mao more slack than I cut Bush – sorry. That is just b.s.

As far as I’m concerned there is a thin line, and when any leader crosses that line then I largely stop counting who is worse or who killed how many people unless somebody else picks a fight over it.

Bush and Mao both crossed that line long ago, Mao teatered on the line between leader and monster, but he finally crossed it in Changchun, the Bush admnistration teatered for a while, and finally crossed it when it faked the threat from Iraq and invaded.

He told him everything would be all right because he, the secretary of State, would fix it. And he did — everything from a serious crisis with China when a U.S. reconnaissance aircraft was struck by a Chinese F-8 fighter jet in April 2001, to the secretary’s constant reassurances to European leaders following the bitter breach in relations over the Iraq war. It wasn’t enough, of course, but it helped.

I share Matt Waters’ apprehension, and worse. I think we best not get our hopes too high, no matter how badly we want some justice and accountability.

Personally, I would not be shocked if no one is indicted, due to legal challenges such as the difficulty in proving someone absolutely knew Plame was a covert agent at the moment they mentioned her name, or trying to prove whether someone was motivated by malice or just bad judgement. Some of these points may be very difficult to prove in a court of law.

Yes, like any good drama, the players are symbols of a far greater conflict, nothing less than the nation’s leaders deceiving the country into an invasion! But the law doesn’t care about the Big Drama, and despite the recent spate of leaks and speculations, we still don’t know all that much about who actually said what about whom and whether or not it was in some way actually illegal.

Of course, no matter what happens, at least enough has already taken place that some American van Winkles seem to be awakening from their drowsy slumbers, rubbing their eyes and starting to notice what has happened these last couple of years, how the Beacon of Freedom came to find itself struggling in an awful, intractable invasion nightmare, seperated from most of our traditional friends by a huge gulf of disgrace. Hey you Sleepers, awake already!

Also, it has been a great relief to see the American press, like a freshly re-animated zombie, struggling back to life.

So even if no indictments (much less convictions) follow, some good has already come of “Plamegate”. See, I’m just like those Republicans already testing their damage-control lines in case the worst comes to past. 🙂

Okay, having said that … pass the popcorn! I want to see Cheney in chains! Rove in a tumbrel! Scooter scooted! 🙂
