World’s ugliest hotel?

Yes, I think it definitely qualifies. Oh, and it’s in Beijing.

I don’t remember ever seeing it before. And I don’t think it’s the kind of thing you’d forget.

Can you imagine what this turkey is going to look like a few years from now, after the wind and acid rain have disfigured its already ghastly paint job?

Wow….

I think I’ll stay there next time I’m in Beijing…just because…

Hmm, wasn’t this shown on the website “Bad Bianzhu” or whatever it was about architecture in China? I remember them saying that you could book the vip suite in the guy’s pumpkin if you had enough dosh.

I saw the photo before on the Bad Architecture site but didn’t realize that this thing is actually in Beijing.

I must go there and experience it.

It would look more realistic if Curly whacked Moe with that big stick he’s holding.

Soooo bad it’s good.

It probably goes better with marijuana.

…alright, so now that I’ve had a few tokes, I think they’re asking me to bring them a shrubbery…

December 12, 2005 @ 5:02 am | Comment

A shrubbery…. That’s Monty Python, isn’t it? What movie was that from?? It must be the King Arthur one, no?

I forgot. I’m stoned now.

🙂

(…yes it’s from “M.P.and the Holy Grail”, reference to the “Knights Who Say, NI!”…)

I seriously plan on staying at the place (though I still plan on staying at Chungking Mansions in HK too, and that is ghastly). Some things must just be experienced.

December 12, 2005 @ 8:52 am | Comment

Oh, SunBin has left a link to what the windows look like from the inside. Ouch!

December 12, 2005 @ 9:00 am | Comment

Forget Chunking Mansions now!

December 12, 2005 @ 11:24 am | Comment

It’s more strange than it is ugly. Or so I think.

December 12, 2005 @ 7:44 pm | Comment

pretty sure its not anywhere where it can be seen, its out in the suburbs if I remember right…

That’s the Three Wise Men of the East motel. 1-Star.

December 13, 2005 @ 12:07 pm | Comment

i am not an artist or architect.
but i don’t think it is ugly at all.

as the chinese report said. it is a but scary at night when there is no flood lights shining on them. during bright daylight it is perfectly fine, (as a statue).

i think it is just a bad and useless design, given the inside lighting and extra cost in construction.
(could the business be justified by the publicity? i don’t know.
— but probably not, because there were no copycat for the past 4 years.)

i think this is a good thing, a mercantilist china allowing the weirdest business idea to try it out. better than squandering on failed state owned projects.

btw, it is not in beijing.

the development zone is official Hebei province, but was marketed by property developer (and local govt) as a ‘sub-urb of beijing’

I love it!

The epitome of postmodern kitsch.

So vile, yet so eccentric, it’s almost beautiful.
