This is an odd one. Note that the headline is in quote marks because I know that today is April 1 and I know John Pasden can have a devilish sense of humor. Still, it doesn’t look like a joke…or does it?
On a more personal note, here’s my situation:
I now have two major clients. After fearing I could never find work in America, I now have more work than I can handle. Suddenly the work was just there, and I may take on a third client next week. (All of these are in some way related to this blog, which indicates it’s not a total waste of time.) I keep toying with the idea of shutting down the blog, something I think aloud about every year or so, but I still can’t do it. After this long, it would be like giving up a child. I may abandon it for a few weeks at a time, but I won’t give it up.
I leave yet again for Shanghai this weekend where I’ll be working for a full week. So while no one likes it when bloggers write tedious posts apologizing for their not posting, I have to do just that, again. I have a book review I need to write and some other posts percolating, but I’ll be lucky if I can get anything posted between now and April 12, when I come back. So once again, please hang in there and check in every few days. Eventually there’ll be a new post. There always is.

It’s a joke, which is why comments are really closed — he doesn’t want people to be able to read comments that give away the joke or remind people what day it is.

@Richard – Time to hire some help? It’s not like there aren’t reams of fresh young things who wouldn’t jump at the chance – for suitable compensation of course.

Custer, that’s what I thought. Pasden can be wicked.
FOARP, I wish I had enough wealth to spread around to a staff, but that’s at least a few months off.

Richard,
Yours is not an April Fool’s day joke? In that case, how about finding some co-blogger(s)?

I used to have a team of four in the golden days of 2005, when this blog also included a very busy message board called The Duck Pond. Nothing good can ever last forever….
If anyone wants to blog, please let me know. You just have to liberal, pro-China, anti-Palin, intolerant of stupidity, non-deranged on Tibet, critical of government injustice/corruption, syntax-savvy, and possess at least a trace of wit. Applications are now being accepted.

Heh. Math is a more likely candidate – at least he’s kind of fun(ny) to read.

note how the URL bar at the top is messed up.
of course “Yellow peril” is not exactly the right wording for Google to be using either, lol.

On a different note – I just saw an ad for Sinopec on Channel 10, Melbourne. WTF??

On a way cooler note – I just saw an ad for Cadbury Creme Eggs. They had about fifty mousetraps set up with an Egg on each… Then they set one of the traps off. Chocolate caramel domino effect from hell. Brilliant!

My local Midas car service place sells Sinopec oil…as used by the Chinese space explorers 🙂

@Mike.
Just saw the ad again. It’s for lubricants (they didn’t mention the space explorers bit.) It’s a first for me. The world changes.
That’s one of the things that fascinates me about China – the good ol’ days can be just a couple of days away.

Speaking of censorship, the Mafiosos running America’s military tried to cover this up for almost 3 years. Now that it’s out they’re pretending they’re SOOOO transparent.
Have you seen the video Richard?

Good thing about the system the US military work under, this video can be legally exposed and printed in the free press despite attempts to suppress it (unlike some countries).
Unlike some other places, I don’t think a couple of decades hard labour is in the offing for this expose….and like you, Merp, no one believes the spin either.
@T_C
Sinopec oil – keeping Iran going for a few more years 😉

It can be exposed despite
1) denials from top to bottom of the US military
2) attempts by the CIA to discredit wiki leaks, Reuters
3) the US’ callous behavior towards families of the victims
4) attempts by the CIA to shut down and block wikileaks
I wonder how many more of these videos are out there? America hid hundreds of thousands of murders during the Cold War Era. Mass graves in South Korea have been discovered. I’m sure we’ll look back in 2050 and find that at least 2 million Iraqis were killed.

I’m sure we’ll look back and find that at least two million Tibetans were killed by the Chinese.
Well, of course I don’t really believe that, but it has as much grounding in reality as your idiotic fantasy. The Iraq was is an ugly, terrible thing. But many if not most Iraqis are still glad America waged that war. That doesn’t justify it, and I see it as a crime, but the fragile democracy there is supported by the majority of citizens. I still think it will probably fail and may even collapse in civil war once we leave. But the Americans didn’t kill 2 million Iraqis. That’s just a number you pulled from who-knows-where. Don’t exaggerate and make stuff up.

Are all your “anti-American” points in #17 also very applicable to the CCP (and, by extension, China…using your logic)?
So why is one (where you don’t reside) a paradise and the other (where you do reside) hell on Earth?
And what does this have to do with an April Fool’s joke?

Why don’t you move to India if you think democracy is so perfect and flawless?
And no, they’re not applicable to China- China hasn’t invaded any foreign country in hundreds of years. The last time was when the Manchus took control of Tibet.
